The goal of the U10 and U12 Programs is skill development through alpine racing in a  team format with the focus on fun and an introduction to sports’ competition.  Seven to nine year olds (U10) will train and race at home.  This is a very important age for developing the fundamentals, and as time on task is essential for development, by not travelling there is more time for training
the fundamentals.  Over 50% of the time will be spent in supervised free skiing games and exercises.  Seven to   nine year olds will take part in up to four events:  one Giant Slalom, one Stubby Slalom, one Super Slalom and the Club Championships.

Ten & eleven year olds (U12) will be placed on travelling teams and will compete in a minimum of three events hosted at various clubs.  The development themes introduced at the younger ages will be expanded with this age group.  The emphasis continues to be on developing strong free skiing skills and entry level racing tactics.

U14 is the next development step for young ski racers.  The emphasis remains on skill acquisition and improvement as these young athletes enter the “train to train” phase of development. This phase incorporates “Decision Training” strategies wherein the athlete begins to learn to make decisions and accept responsibility for their performance, a strong element in their growth both as
an athlete and as an individual. Athletes train and travel as a team, yet, individual and team results are awarded at the races.  Racers may compete in a variety of formats (Giant Slalom, Slalom, Combo and Skier X events) in as many as four SOD races as well as Carnivals and Championships provided they qualify for and are selected to them. U14 athletes are encouraged to take part in the SOD Skill
Development Camps and the Spring Series during the March Break.
